Spotlight on Vintage Ceramic Animals

If you've visited us, you may have noticed our love of kitschy cute ceramic animal cookie jars, planters, banks, teapots, cups and shakers of all sorts. A true rainbow of hand panited goodness - these little darlings catch our eye every time.

Many of these items are marked with a simple JAPAN on the base. Between 1921 and the end of World War II, ceramic pieces made in Japan were marked "Japan." In addition, items marked after the occupation of Japan (following World War II) may be marked just Japan. The majority of vintage JAPAN stamped ceramic creatures found today were created in the 50's and 60's.

Next post . . . vintage planters and their many handy dandy uses (other than for putting plants in)!
