Project Recon: feature designer - Dizzy Dame

Welcome to another edition of {Project Recon}. A thrifted garment is reconstructed and transformed, process chronicled, and listed for sale through . 100% of the proceeds from the sale of each {Project Recon} creation will be donated to a local or national charity of the designers choice.

February's Project Recon is brought to us by Melanie Wesley of Dizzy Dame.

The project: 60's wool plaid skirt

Stats: A gray /orange plaid skirt circa 1965.Great colors and wool is in mint condition but the skirt is an unflattering length and the waist measures 23" (good if you own some sort of torso crushing underpinnings)

Price tag: $3.99

Designers Charity of choice: Winnipeg Harvest Last year Winnipeg Harvest distributed over 9.8 million pounds of food to over 320 Member Agencies across Manitoba, including food banks, soup kitchens, youth programs and drop-in-centers.

Process: A vintage wool skirt with an unflattering fit hits the cutting table for "project recon! Take the skirt completely apart and undo box pleats. Set the waist band aside. After all fabric is cleaned and pressed, stitch up a simple pillow from the reclaimed fabric.

I dug up some vintage lace from my stash to pair with the waistband to create a sweet detail to an otherwise plain pillow. Top it off with a vintage button and this cute pillow will add charm to any decor.
