I am obsessed, in fiction, with the topic of a distopian society. Honestly, it sticks with me. The Giver, A Brave New World, Nineteen Eighty Four - all books written with such power. Even films like Running Man, Blade Runner & Logan's Run (and in a more comical way, Demolition Man) get my mind spinning around the idea that the future will culminate in a controlled state which feigns Utopian perfection, yet is ultimately more repressive than any before it. It's fascinating to draw connections with novels like George Orwell's 1984 (written in 1949) to the reality of today. Just like the predictions of Nostradamus are interpreted to suit modern events, it's easy to see prophecies from these novels coming to life. I'm very curious about how the future of this planet, and humanity will play out. Frightening, but completely fascinating, isn't it? Do you have a favorite novel or movie that's message really hits home for you?
