I've heard and read that Playa Del Carmen used to be a laid back fishing port rather than a tourist destination. Well, that certainly has changed. These days it's a bustling stretch of shops, restaurants and hotels. A lot of the buildings have character that dates them pre-boom, and others are shiny glass and concrete structures that look like they belong back at home. There's a Starbucks and a McDonalds nestled in between old hotels and vendor booths. It's a mix of old and new that offers both convenience and character. I stuck to local restaurants though, because who wants fries when you can have fresh tortilla chips and guacamole?
Are you tired of vacation photos yet? There are a lot more . . . Although I have more shopping photos, I'll switch it up and bring it back to the beach for the next travel post.
