After our trip down Hoodoo Trail, we ended up at the Atlas Coal Mine, a national historic site. The wooden tipple you see in the first photo is the last of it's kind in Canada. Although Eve was too young to go up into the coal mine (the age limit is set at 6 years old) we were able to take a guided tour through the tipple and learn about how coal was processed here. The site also had several buildings to tour. I loved the tiny miners cabin and the managers office with the safe that had never been cracked. I've been watching The Amazing Race Canada and was pretty enthused about seeing the coal cars they filled during their Alberta leg of the race. After a couple hours wandering around this place we left dusty and happy. A short trip out to Horseshoe Canyon and we were on our way to Canmore for a 3 night stay in Banff National Park.
