It started off iffy, with a total white out grounding us only a couple hours into our road trip and a shocking discovery that we had left our luggage back at home, but I still felt lucky to be ringing in the new year with family at Giants Ridge Minnesota this week. The weather wasn't co-operating as we had hoped, with extreme chill warnings every day but we were still able to bundle up and have some fun. Luke snowboarded two days in a row, going on the chair lift to the medium hill. It was difficult to get him to come indoors to warm up. He loves it so much. I was able to snowshoe a pretty trail with my guide and sil, Tanya. We trudged from the forest path, across the frozen lake and right to our villa door. Some of us skied and others were on observation duty. Eve got pretty ripped off in the outdoor fun department, it being too cold for her baby face. She did look pretty cool in her new one piece snowsuit. I'm sure we'll get lots of use of that yet this winter. It didn't seem to dampen her spirits anyhow. She loves vacation no matter what we're doing.
After it all, we rang in the new year with a fire, many rounds of "quarters" and some wine/beer/mojitos/champagne to warm us up. We watched one of the best movies ever (Braveheart) and one of the worst (Sharknado) and just spent quality time together. It was fun and we're home safe and sound now, back in the coldest city on earth (I think that could be true).
