Camping with kids is a whole other venture my friends. I thought it might just be me, but apparently even experienced campers have to plan carefully before bringing their brood out into the wild. Last weekend our campsite had a lovely swampy water feature after a few days of rain. Eve was drawn to it like a magnet, bare feet and all. I discovered quickly that rain boots go with every outfit perfectly. That was one thing I brought. A hiking pack was something I didn't bring, so when we decided to do a trail one morning I only had a purse to drag along. Although not having the proper supplies hasn't stopped us before, it is so much more enjoyable when you're prepared.
When I came home I started to browse for nature exploration / camp craft resources for kids and I came across this gem. I'll let you know what I think of it after it's read, but in the meantime I thought you might enjoy the free PDF camping lists which accompany the book The Down and Dirty Guide to Camping with Kids: How to Plan Memorable Family Adventures and Connect Kids to Nature.
