Walking around Manhattan

April 8, 2015

I was expecting tall buildings, and lots of them. I was expecting crowds of people crossing the street and lines of yellow cabs. I was expecting an eclectic blend of old, midcentury and new. Manhattan met all these expectations and so much more!  It is an endlessly exciting place to visit where you could be entertained all day by just strolling around watching the hustle and bustle of the city. Pigeons, pizza, delis, deliveries, concrete, tourists, construction, street performers, fire escapes, tailors, florists and barbers.

The best way to experience a city is by walking it. Here are a few photos from our many hours beating the pavement on our attempt to soak in Manhattan!

I always like to pack as light as possible, which means that if I can get by with one pair of shoes I'm really pleased with myself. This time I decided that a comfortable old pair of vintage Justin boots would do the trick. They're supportive and worn in, not too warm, not too cool, and waterproof enough in the city. Hey, if ranchers wear them, I'm sure they'll hold up to my abuse. Style wise, they sure beat sneakers for a dinner date! Todd had the same mentality, but his didn't hold up quite as well. He ended up walking the Museum of Natural History in his socks. Next trip we'll have to find a better solution!

Good old workwear! I had the urge to wear overalls, but just never have good luck finding the right fit thrifting. Got these H&M conscious ones yesterday and they’re thicker like the 90’s kind, perfect fit. Go grab them if you’ve been looking for a pair!
The light is lasting.
Today I spent the day washing, sorting, letting go of the old. How soon is too soon to spring clean? Move while the mood strikes I say! I literally washed and put away every piece of laundry, every sheet, every towel.
Cold but sunny. Only froze my toes a little. Totally warmed up my dreary attitude!
