I don't know much about foraging for wild mushrooms. All I know is that they're so strange and wonderful to behold, I find myself scanning the forrest floor during every hike, hoping to spot a new variety. Todd is much better at scouting them than I am so we're kind of a team on this little photo collection. They aren't easy to find! I love that taking photos of them allows each specimen to remain untouched, there for the next wanderer to marvel at. I've since discovered that specifically photographing mushrooms and fungi (mycology photography) is a THING. Whew! Just look at this 300 photo collection of The Mystical World of Mushrooms to see how mind blowing, out of this world, and spectacular mushrooms really are! Believe me, once you start noticing them you'll be hooked on the mystical mushroom too.
The brain like fungus below is the Gyromitra Esculenta (or Western False Morel) a poisonous variety which in extreme cases causes delirium, coma and death within 5-7 days. So, look don't touch - ok?
