Family Road Trip: Bear Lake, the Caribbean of the Rockies!

Family Road Trip: Bear Lake, the Caribbean of the Rockies!

Summertime is on the horizon which means that now is the time to start seriously planning for a great family vacation! Every year we spend a lot of time lakeside. We've had the opportunity to visit the coast and although the ocean is truly breathtaking, freshwater swimming cannot be beat. That said, not all lakes are created equal. The trick is in finding one that's large enough for boating and water sports, clear and temperate enough for swimming, and has sandy beaches and shallow waters for children to enjoy. When you find such a natural treasure, you've hit the jackpot! A memorable family vacation is sure to follow.

So, where can you find the ideal lakeside spot to sneak away to with the family? Let me introduce you to Bear Lake, Utah. Nicknamed the Caribbean of the Rockies for it's intense clear, turquoise blue water, it spans 22 miles long and 7 miles across. You'll find this breathtaking lake in the idyllic rural landscape on the Idaho-Utah border, which makes it a great stopover point on the way to Yellowstone National Park. Be warned however. Once you stay a while, you might not want to leave! I hadn't heard of Bear Lake before putting together this article, but it seems like there are many people out there who already know the secret of how great this place is.

The shores of Bear Lake are white sandy beaches with shallow water which make for ideal days lounging and swimming under a summer sky. Kayak and paddle board rentals are available right at the beach, along with bike rentals to cruise local paths. For those looking to explore the lake beyond it's shores, boat and jet ski rentals are plentiful. No need to bring your own for the long haul! When you need a refresher, try a Bear Lake World Famous Raspberry Shake, made with locally grown raspberries. You might need to sample several of them to see who makes the best one!

Lodging options at Bear Lake are very suitable for families. Book a cabin or vacation rental, or bring your RV or camping gear. Each choice gives you the pleasure of enjoying the natural surroundings. There are many larger rentals that can accommodate family reunions or a stay with friends too! When researching this travel destination we discovered Conestoga Ranch. They offer amazing glamping rentals that you'll definitely want to check out. Imagine staying a night in your own covered wagon! The canvas tents look beautiful too, all set with bonfire pits just steps away. Choosing an interesting rental can add so much to your vacation. The adults love it, but just imagine how excited kids will get to tuck away at night in a cool tent or to explore a log cabin come morning.

Bear Lake has a lot of hiking trails to get you going at sunrise, or to cap off the day. ATV rentals are a great alternative to exploring the area on foot. Even horseback riding can be on the itinerary. Just thinking about spending a week away at a great family destination like this makes me so excited for summer. The times we have spent as a family enjoying nature and unplugging from our daily lives have brought us so close together. The memories we've gathered continue to motivate us to make more. If you're thinking of a lakeside vacation this summer, I hope we've introduced you to a great option in Bear Lake , Utah. It's always our pleasure to spread the word about all there is to see and do right here in North America. Happy planning!
