Our Boler Life - Family Camping
Summer is rolling along nicely over here and I thought I'd share a bit of our camp photos with you all. We've been taking in the Manitoba scenery and hitting hotspots like Riding Mountain and the Whiteshell. The past few days were spent at Grand Beach Provincial Park.
This summer has been so rainy! It has been pretty unavoidable while camping but a little rain doesn't have to spoil the party. One such morning we had a simple breakfast and played Dominoes and Yahtzee before going to visit a little interpretive centre sharing the history of Grand Beach. That was followed up by a Americano and white hot chocolates at a little joint in nearby Grand Marais.
Shortly after, the clouds parted and we hit the boardwalk for ice-cream and some playing on the beach. It's funny, you can really convince kids anything is a game. We played "Stack Rocks", "Beach Tic-Tac-Toe","Beach Relay Race" and "Beach Dance-Off" before building sand creatures and taking a clothes on swim (oops).
Come evening we visited a local restaurant and bar for nachos and burgers. There was a foam party going on in the bar. The kids screamed when they saw the 8 foot high wall of bubbles bulging over the walls of the patio. They both took a run around the bar, right through the bubbles (and into hidden patio furniture) before racing out (ages 18 and up - no fair!). No worries. When the wind picked up, great clouds of bubbles lofted out of the patio and into the parking lot where we raced to catch them. It was a pretty funny sight.
Whenever you camp with kids, make sure to ask if they have booklets. Some have helpful tips on bear and water safety. The ones we got helped pass the time when it was drizzling and the thunder rolled in. Our little Eggie might be tiny (Boler's measure just 10 feet long in the interior) but when the thunder cracked, I was glad we had a place to hang out. We finished this trip watching The Secret of Nihm on a tiny TV that we have sitting over our equally tiny sink on the tiniest counter in the world. Every time we've camped this summer, both kids have told me how much they love it. Camping has helped us make so many happy memories so far. It's been one of the very best time investments we've made for our family. I highly recommend camp with kids - get out there!
