Canada Day in Riding Mountain

Canada Day in Riding Mountain

The official kickoff to summer is the Canada Day long weekend, which we decided to spend in Riding Mountain National Park. One of the best ways to feel super patriotic about our country is to enjoy it's natural beauty. It was Eggies first time out for the summer of 2016, and happily everything went smoothly. We used our custom awning and had a great little spot to call home base while we enjoyed the park.

Thanks for the tattoo's Nana!

We enjoyed the beach, walking around the town of Clear Lake, had a campfire at a friends cottage, ate some delicious pizza (T.R. McKoys) and even caught a movie at Canada's largest (maybe only?) log constructed movie theatre. Check out the Park Theatre site, it's really neat! By the way, we thought Jungle Book was pretty great.

Come Sunday the rain finally rolled in, holding off long enough for us to pack it up. After a hot breakfast we unhitched and made our way to Lake Audy. When it rains in Riding Mountain, it's a great opportunity to take a scenic drive through the park to the bison reserve. The herd is most active in the early morning, and when it's cool and rainy. Just as we had hoped, we found some wandering down a quiet road. Here's a post about one time when we were totally surrounded by the herd!

Fellow Canadians, I hope you had a great Canada Day and to our American Friends have a fantastic Independence Day!
