Ode to Summer 2016
Where do I begin? It seems like I've fallen out of the habit of blogging again. It happens every summer. Luckily I still make a point of taking lots of photos so September is always a good time to catch up and look back on the season. I want to put it to record that this was a VERY good summer full of camping, travel, a much needed renovation, and lots of family time. We all spent tons of time outside and got our best tans in years. Luke became a much better swimmer, which has been a bit of a challenge for him so far. He's also made a lot of progress skateboarding and keeps impressing me every time I watch him skate. Eve worked on riding her bike without training wheels. Her Nana brought us to watch a play at Rainbow Stage which is becoming a summer tradition. We all loved it! I continued to practice guitar daily and am starting to feel confidant finger playing which suits a lot of the 60's and 70's folk music I like to play.
Todd and I have become very efficient and fast about the set up and take down of our Eggie camping adventures so it just keeps getting easier to get away on shorter notice. I made an inventory of all our gear along with what bin everything is stored in. Todd built shelves inside the closet so that space is being used to it's full potential now too. Lastly, we seemed to find wild blueberries everywhere we went this summer, even at a beautiful wedding we attended at an old camp in Blue Lake, Ontario. Watching Eve gather them in her fancy outfit with her Auntie was the cutest thing!
But I think the main theme of the summer was "Family". Our travels took us near and far to visit our cousins and Todd's brothers family who moved to Kelowna last year. My niece even came to stay with us for a few weeks and for a while it felt like I had another child (she's wonderful). I was so happy we could spend her 12th birthday with her.
At the end of August we spent two weeks in the Okanagan region of British Columbia. 7 of those days we explored Shuswap Lake on a houseboat with Todd's parents and his brothers families. That trip had us enjoying wineries, fresh fruit straight from B.C. orchards (and back yards), glistening mica flecked granite stone beaches, towering waterfalls, sunning & guitar strumming, fresh water lake swimming and more than a few pitchers of frozen lime daiquiris. It also had it's share of critter encounters including mice, snakes, frogs, slugs and bats! I know we will never forget that adventure. More blogged about this soon!
So that's it! Summer 2016 is officially over. We're all back to work and school. Luke entered grade 6 and Eve just had her very first day of Kindergarten this past Friday. She's been looking forward to this moment all her life, no joke! This is a new chapter in life for all of us. I can feel things changing all around, and although it makes me sad that some things will never be the same, I also look forward to the opportunities that will open up to us going forward. Onward and Upward I say!
Thanks for following along with Lune Blog friends. I hope your summer was wonderful and memorable as well!
