Last weekend was spent at my cousins beachouse. It's a large ranch style, midcentury dream of a place that I love to bits. They bought the property will the entire contents, which included all manner of things from the 60's. We had fun riding clackety beach bikes, listening to Strawberry Alarmclock, watching old movies and of course, stirring up a few cocktails.
When my sister in law, Tanya (IG@tanyamunro) started making these Elderflower, Grapefruit and Pomegranate cocktails, the blogger in me knew this was irresistible content. They're called a Belvedere Crimson Crush. Come on. They're gorgeous! I have to tell you, these sound like magical pixie drinks, and are very fresh and fruity, but they are actually pretty strong like a martini.
Well, as least the first one tasted strong ...
1/2 oz St. Germain (elderflower liquor )
1 1/2 oz Vodka of your choice
1/2 ripe grapefruit
3 bar spoons of pomegranate seeds (seed packs are easier)
Start by scooping out the meat from half of a ripe, pink grapefruit into your glass. Muddle to release the juice. Add St. Germain and vodka, along with 3 small spoonfuls of pomegranate seeds. Muddle contents of glass lightly with a spoon. Add crushed ice. Garnish with a wedge of pink grapefruit.
This drink should be served in a small glass or a martini glass. If you'd like to dilute it a bit, just serve it up in a larger glass and add pink grapefruit juice, or for a bit of sparkle, tonic water or sprite. You have to try this one, it's so refreshing!
